The man behind the dials and slide controls. He can make a mediocre band sound like a million dollars, make or break a song, an album or an entire career. During the first 80 years of the 1900's, recording medium was either ceramic cylinders, vynil discs or millions of miles of magnetic tape.

Production was truely an artform. As recording medium became almost exclusively digital around the beginning of the 21st century, the 'artform' became more or less a job. Computers began to make the producer's job easier and less exploratory.
