Based on vocal abilites, stage persona, musical and visual appeal. These people infuenced others in various aspects of music, songwriting, dance moves, vocal technique and social-political views. These artists will also be remembered for how they contributed to world, not just in their songs.

Individual artist that is most influential? 'Rambling' Jack Elliot is ackknowledged as influencing Bob Dylan and Woody Guthrie, Robert Johnson influenced Eric Clapton, so how do you draw the line..something to ponder Cool

Elvis was named 'Entertainer of the century' for a reason , he is still as popular today as when he was alive, maybe more so, only the Beatles come close to that accomplishment!

I'm glad to see 'U2' in your top ten list, I think that they have proven to be in the elite cicle of all time most influential and creative bands. They are a 'band' and like the Beatles the sum of the parts is greater then the whole Razz

I just saw a Bioography on Joni Mitchell, although I'm only 18 and didn't own any of her music I'm now a big listener of her music, she's the best writer and singer ever.
